President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team wants the incoming administration to drop a requirement to report car crashes that Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. has opposed, according to a document seen by Reuters, a move that could hamper the government’s ability to investigate and regulate the safety of vehicles with automated driving systems.
Tesla has reported most of the incidents — more than 1,500 so far — to federal safety regulators.
Tesla has been targeted in investigations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including three crashes caused by the data.
